Job Description
The Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician is responsible for performing field and laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This role involves daily travel to job sites, accurate documentation, communication with project teams, and adherence to safety and quality requirements. Key Responsibilities Field Testing • Perform on-site testing and inspection of construction materials, including: o Concrete sampling, slump tests, air content, and temperature checks o Soil compaction testing using nuclear density gauges o Asphalt density, compaction, and temperature checks o Foundation, rebar, and structural inspections as required • Observe and document construction activities for compliance with plans and specifications. • Collect and label material samples for laboratory testing. Laboratory Testing • Conduct lab tests on soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete samples following ASTM/ AASHTO standards. • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and testing instruments. • Record, analyze, and verify test data for accuracy. Documentation & Reporting • Complete daily field reports, test results, and data entry using company software. • Communicate issues, test failures, or discrepancies to project managers and contractors immediately. • Maintain detailed and organized logs of all inspections and test results. Safety & Compliance • Follow all company, site, and industry safety procedures and PPE requirements. • Properly handle and operate nuclear density gauges per regulatory requirements. • Maintain necessary certifications and participate in regular training.
Requirements
- •Preferred
- •Prior experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or related field.
- •Certifications such as:
- •o ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I
- •o Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification
- •Basic understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
- •Strong math, problem-solving, and communication skills.

- •Field-based role requiring travel to various job sites.
